2001 NEWSLETTER
Greetings from Jerry and Sandy at Big Rock Resort.

Remembering
It has been an eventful year at Big Rock Resort. 2001 will, of course, be far more remembered by the world events after the summer season ended. Only a few days after the Labor Day weekend, when many of our relatives gathered for our annual family reunion, all of our lives changed dramatically. This action affected people of all races, cultures and faiths. We continue to hope that diplomatic and military actions underway will successfully dismantle the worldwide terrorist organizations that threaten peace everywhere. Perhaps in the process more tolerance of others and extension of freedom to everyone will evolve. It is particularly heartening to see the joy in the faces of the Afghanistan women as they are released from bondage. Finally we hope that each of you are able to find peace and happiness in your lives. Our tradition of adding a new flag each year will continue. Next year we will have seven flags waving over the harbor with more meaning now to us.

Vacation Time Enjoying vacation time is for many of us an essential component of our lifestyle. We hope visiting Big Rock can somehow solidify your family and friends by just being in the beauty of the lakes and woods. It is our goal to provide a resort setting in Northern Minnesota's Lake Country that will help you make the most of your vacation time. You may even find yoursel1 surrounded by hungry walleyes. This happened last August 13 to a group of seven from the Greater Thornton Area of Iowa, who in one day caught 33 big walleyes.

    2001 Notes
  • Guests at Big Rock came from coast to coast and also Spain, Holland and Greenland. .One couple became engaged during their vacation here.
  • Two architects, that worked with Jerry , made a return trip to Big Rock from California with their families.
  • Roger Larson' s client caught 6 muskies in one day in August.
  • The Luther College group provided a recommended list of cabin improvements; something about a bathroom being too large and a shower head that is too high.
  • Rudy and Mary Ann Beniak celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary . .Loran and Thelma Mohr celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary
  • Sandy's hot dog and chili cookout on Monday nights was more popular than ever. It may have been something in the chili or the two swinging benches by the fire-
  • Chuck Emery provided successful fishing guide trips resulting in many happy clients.
  • We continue to improve the resorts infrastructure and update cabin needs.

2002 Activities
The nations premier walleye tournament, Professional Walleye Tour, returns to Walker this year. Pre-fishing for the tournament begins May 17 with the tournament scheduled for May 22 to May 24. The City of Walker is gearing up for this major event.

Speaking of premier, our 25 ft. Premier Pontoon, which had its inaugural season in 200 1, will be available for weekly or daily ( if not rented weekly) rentals. It's a great way to get the whole group together .

The second annual Big Rock/Rock Bass Tournament will be held again in August. The activities last year included Roger Larson' s Rock Bass fishing seminar with the assistance of Sharon Larson in her bikini, a harbor fishing contest for the kids, "T" shirt auction by Kenny Girard, the #1 Auctioneer in South Dakota, and a delicious fish fry. We predict that next year more than three rock bass will be caught and that the Minnesota state record will be broken. We will again offer a one week vacation in the fall for the state record rock bass.

Happy Holidays - Jerry and Sandy
