Big Fish, Small Fish and Everything Inbetween

Posted on September 8, 2014 · Posted in Leech Lake Fishing Report

While its been a little while since I last posted, I wanted to get everyone caught up with the late summer/early fall fishing up here on good old Leech Lake. The short of it, fishing has been consistently good, and one some days, as one of our guests said, “phenomenal” fishing has really  turned around over the last 3 weeks, making up for the tougher than average fishing that we had to put up with during the month of July. The perch bite has yet to really turn on, good numbers of small fish are being caught, and in the predictable places.

Walleye are being caught all over the lake at the moment, from mid-lake reefs on crank baits, to blown shorelines with jigs and minnows, to sand flats and weed edges, the key has been staying mobile, and finding that group of fish that are willing to bite.

Pictured below from L to R: Chad Johnson and Jess Havlik from Cedar Rapids, IA with a Musky of a day, they boated all 3 of these muskies on the same day, Chads was 48 inches, and the duo that Jess caught came in at 43 and 51 inches.

Pictured Below from L to R: Mike Burnside, and Russ Havlik, both from the Cedar Rapids area of IA with limits of walleye, and to show he isn’t a one trick pony, a dandy large mouth bass, when you limit out on walleye and pike, I guess you turn into a bass fisherman!
