All the Same

Walleye fishing continues to be above average, something that we don’t always get to say this time of year, typically this is the beginning of the slow down stage for walleye, when they are moving from spring to summer spots. Pike fishing remains to be some of the best we have seen in recent years, with stringer full after stringer full of 22-25 inchers coming in, while these may not break any records, they are easily the best eating, as long as you have someone clean them that knows what they are doing. (hint hint wink wink)

The bite for walleye has been primarily on leeches and night crawlers, slow drifting spinner and Lindy rigs. The trolling bite hasn’t improved much over the last couple weeks, with water temps just nudging up to 70 degrees on the surface, I’d say We are not far off of coveted trolling action. Trolling now would net you as many northern pike as your heart desires, with a peppering of walleye to boot.

Pictured below from L to R: Ashley and her father Kevin Luehrs from Glencoe, MN along with friends Josh and Dustin from Hutchinson, MN with a great outing, bringing back 9 keepers all caught on leeches – The grand children squad of Sheila and Michael Long from Roscoe, IL they managed to get into a few days worth of good crappie fishing, finding some still spawning south of Bear Island.

Best area’s for action have been along the south shore from Rogers Point to Bungy Bay there are oodles of sharp breaks, rocks piles, saddles and just plain good walleye structure. Bring plenty of bait, you’ll need it. If you’re more apt to trolling, stick to the mid-lake stuff, Mokey, Big Rock Reef, Submarine Island. Fire tiger has been a hot color.

Not much to report on in the muskie department, I’m hearing of some active fish chasing baits, but haven’t heard of any actual hook ups, look for muskie patrolling deep water breaks where shallow water is near, and concentrate your efforts on areas with good weed coverage, Uram Bay has some real nice cabbage coming in right now.

With water temps on the rise and the inevitable dogs days of summer on the way, get here soon to take advantage of some fantastic fishing, and make your self at home with us, and all the Walker area has to offer. If you have any questions or comments don’t hesitate to contact us, we look forward to serving you.
